Lived from 1924 to 2005. After serving at sea as a Merchant Sailor and achieving the rank of officer, became a farmer and painter. Specialised in Marine paintings - his seas are renowned for their realism - but also painted Kentish Landscapes (where he lived for latter part of his life) using the name John Sharp for those works.

Started his working life as a Merchant seaman where he learnt about "real" seas. Every painting of his is researched and the information is on a label verso.
