Lucien Potronat - born 1889 - was a French artist considered to be ahead of his time. He studied in Lyons where he was born, and then moved to Paris where he became a regular exhibitor at the Paris Salon. From the 1930s, he lived and worked on the French Riviera. Fascinated by the light and warmth of the area, he frequently painted coastal scenes depicting whitewashed villas with trailing Bougainvillaea and the distinctivce blue of the Med' rising to meet azure skies.
