English Artists » Alwyn Crawshaw

Born at Mirfield (1934) in Yorkshire, he now lives in Norfolk. As a Painter, Teacher, Lecturer, Author and TV personality, he has become widely known. He is recognised as a leading authority on the use of Acrylic paints.

He paints what he calls ‘Realistic Subjects’ and these are mainly English Landscapes. His trade-marks are Elm Trees and working horses.

In 1975 one of his works titled ‘Wet and Windy’ became one of the top ten prints of that year, and even today, these prints are still selling well.

His works have been exhibited in France, Germany, North and South America, Australia, Scandinavia, Russia, Poland, Hungary, Romania besides the many Galleries in Britain. Perhaps his most important exhibitions were the three one man shows at Harrods, and also a one man show in Chester which was opened by the |Duchess of Westminster.

Another highly regarded work of his was the painting titled ‘The Silver Jubilee Fleet Review – 1977’ which he painted especially for that occasion. It also had the benefit of showing that he was capable of painting almost any subject.

Many years ago, I met him at Oxted when he had been commissioned to paint a Cricket match on Master Park – I was one of the players that day!
