Paul Morgan

Paul was born in Barking (Essex) on November 8th 1940.

He was the son of a talented Amateur Artist, and he feels today that he learned much at a very early age from watching his Dad, although he remains basically self-taught.

Paul’s talent was first appreciated when he was only nine, when his talent was spotted and appreciated by his art master at school. However, it wasn’t until 1973 that he took up painting as a career.

The years between school and 1973 were restless and unfruitful as he attempted to follow the advice of those who could see no future in Art. He was apprenticed for three years in Mechanical Engineering and entered what he felt was an alien world totally divorced from his love of nature.

Inevitably doomed to dissatisfaction in this field, he attempted a compromise in 1962 by taking a course in Graphic Design and entered the realms of Commercial Art, but still this did not give satisfaction.

Finally he followed his instincts and set himself up as an Artist. Like many other successful Artists, he found it difficult at first, but eventually he made contact with a dealer who bought sufficient quantity of his work to keep him living and working for the next four years. However, this relationship was not the easiest as, for example, he was obliged to paint hunting scenes, an activity that he abhorred.

Through his love of God, and his love of art and nature, he came through this period to find support from other dealers and collectors who appreciated his true work which is now to be found in collections in Bermuda, The Middle East, Sri Lanka, West Africa and Canada although naturally he remains best known in Western Europe, particularly Britain and Germany.

Paul is a landscape Artist who brings mood and atmosphere to the subject matter, which makes a painting come alive, but, like every perfectionist, he is never satisfied with his work and continually strives for improvement. With this attitude, his future would seem to be assured.
