About Stewart Gallery
Welcome to our family-owned art gallery, established in the early 1970s in Tunbridge Wells by my Grandfather, Stewart, and my Mother Laraine.
Later on, both my Uncles, Malcom and Powell joined them, along with my Grandmother, Margaret, who worked here for many years.
Grandad Stewart successfully opened and ran 3 galleries. Gallery Laraine, in Tunbridge Wells, Claire Gallery in Bexhill and Stewart Gallery in Eastbourne. Unfortunately after his passing, the galleries closed down and the family business continued solely online. It is my aim to open a gallery in the future so we can display all of the amazing art work that we have.
Grandad Stewart passed away in 1993, leaving my Uncle Malcom to run the family business, running it successfully as an online Art gallery. However, at the beginning of 2023, Malcom retired, enjoying a quiet life in Battle. My Uncle Powell then took over to ensure that the business did not disappear after 50 years. Powell is based in Hereford and is focusing on travel and is a leading authority on small ship cruises.
So, now in 2026, the reigns have been handed over to myself, Bradley Moore and my partner Laura, based in Bexhill.
It is a privilege to join the family business. Although we are not as experienced in the Art world as my uncles, I have been a buyer and seller of antiques and collectables for coming up 7 years, running my own business – All In All Trading – I would say my main interest is in vintage toys.
One of the very first paintings I bought was a lovely 19th century portrait of a Head mistress from Swandecotes School, who was being honoured for her long service, and the artist chosen, Dame Ethel Walker, was known for her talented portraits of men and women during this period. With thanks to the advice from my Uncle Powell, I put the painting into a fine art auction and it sold very well.
My partner Laura, who has chosen to join this new venture with me, currently works in the local Primary School and has done for the past 23 years. She will mostly be in charge of, the running of the website and the Stewart Gallery social media pages, whilst I will be focusing on the buying and selling part.
